LED Floating Shelf FAQS

LED Lighted Floating Shelves FAQ

Yes, you absolutely need a transformer to power the LED lights on your floating shelves. Shop Transformers.

The transformer required for your lighted shelf varies depending on several factors, including:

Shelf size: Each foot of lighting needs 3 watts to light up correctly.
Lighting type: Uplighting, downlighting, or a combination will impact the necessary transformer capacity.
Number of shelves: If you have multiple shelves, you'll need a transformer that can handle the combined power draw.

Due to the unique nature of each custom shelf order, we cannot provide a one-size-fits-all transformer solution.

To determine the correct transformer size:

1. Calculate the total wattage: Each foot of lighting uses 3 watts.
2. Add 10% to the total wattage for a safety margin.
3. Select a transformer with a wattage rating that exceeds the calculated total wattage.
Note: Our transformers are dimmable with a forward phase dimming switch.

One transformer can typically power multiple shelves. The key is to be able to route the low-voltage wires from all the shelves to a single central location for the transformer. For example, if you're installing shelves in a kitchen, you can often run the wires through wall cavities to a single location in a base cabinet. However, if you're installing shelves on opposite sides of a fireplace, you may need two transformers if it's difficult to connect them all to a single point

The best location for the transformer depends on your specific installation. Ideally, choose a location that is:

Out of sight: Conceal it in a cabinet, attic, basement, or behind a wall.
Easily accessible: You should be able to reach it without difficulty for any necessary maintenance or repairs.

Our lighting strips are not pre-installed to provide maximum flexibility during installation.

Easy Customization: Holes are drilled on both sides of the shelf's back (wall side) to allow for easy wiring placement. This ensures you can choose the most convenient side for your unique installation needs.
